Group TRE® Instruction in the San Francisco Bay Area TRE® (short for Tension, Stress, & Trauma Release Exercises) is a series of gentle exercises which prime the body to shake to release tension, stress, and/or trauma. TRE instruction includes self-regulation, such as how to take breaks, resume, and stop the shaking so the client knows s/he can control the shaking process. SEEKING: Participants should:
Be able to safely perform light exercise (and shaking) during the group session. (Someone who is recovering from a recent surgery, for example, will not be able to practice TRE without risk of jeopardizing their own healing.)
Be nongravid (not pregnant). (While TRE is believed to be safe for pregnant woman (and tremors occur naturally in birth and recovery), pregnant individuals are generally not advised to perform TRE. If you are pregnant (and not yet in the Third Trimester of your pregnancy), really wish to learn TRE now, and have the consent of your medical e provider, please contact me to discuss.)
Arrive 15 minutes before the TRE session starts, so everyone is ready to begin on time. If arriving less than 10 minutes before start time, please enter quietly, as I plan to offer complimentary self-Breema instruction during that time.
Wear loose, comfortable clothing (preferably in layers), including full-length pants.
Bring a yoga mat (unless otherwise instructed) and water.
MY EXPERIENCE WITH TRE: I discovered TRE in the beginning of 2011 and loved and benefited from it immediately. I have been a big time fan of TRE and have been singing its praise for 6+ years. TRE was developed by Dr. David Berceli in response to his desire to support others' ability to nurture, care for, and heal themselves, especially when location and/or finances limits access to professional care. Through direct experience in worn-torn countries, Dr. Berceli observed young children shaking in traumatic situations and learned that the older children and adults in the same situations were forcing themselves NOT to allow their natural shaking response. He discovered that animals (especially in the wild), too, will shake in response to a life threat and, after shaking, will resume normal activities without being traumatized. Dr. Berceli learned that suppressing the body's natural shaking response to trauma/overwhelm can interfere with one's capacity for recovery, wellness, and full vitality; people can learn to invoke the restorative shaking response later on through the exercises he developed; and TRE provides relief of everyday tension and stress -- not just trauma.
